CAIN LINDEGREEN

Every year there is a flood of new and astounding music. 2021 was no exception. I spent lots of time soaking in new albums by young and old alike. But none of them hit me as hard as my NUMBER ONE listening experience of 2021...

BOB DYLAN - Trouble No More, The Bootleg Series Vol. 13, 1979-1981

More than EIGHT hours of Bob Dylan, telling you in no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ is the way and the light. That GOD is great and to deny such may see you burn in a lake of fire.

To which I can only say, whatever for that. I really don't mind. I may or may not agree but I can't deny the power of a fully engaged Bob Dylan.

I was prepared to be turned off by his strident proselytizing but instead I found his commitment to be utterly riveting. And why not. My whole life I've heard Stevie Wonder sing songs of praise and loved it. I've marveled at the cover of Dopethrone and revelled in the Satanic majesty of Slayer and other long haired bogans of the fiery deep.

So, who cares if his royal Bobness had a dose of the Jesus fever? I don't judge the message (exception for Skrewdriver, Barzum etc), only the power of the music. And when Dylan has something to say, it can be like standing in front of a magnificent hurricane. Unnerving, yes. But with the power to lift you up and blow you away completely.
