See ya 2022, here's to a 2023 that's WAY better !! Happy New Year !
This year we limited our crew picks to 5 ALBUMS - the albums we've listened to & loved ... new, old, live, reissued, boxsets ... after some reflection and a bit of angst here's what each of us came up with !

SUMMER OF SOUL OST - VARIOUS ARTISTS
soul, pop, jazz, blues, gospel
JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE - LOS ANGELES FORUM
rock, blues, psych-rock

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE - LIVE ALIVE
blues rock, electric blues

OBITUARY - SLOWLY WE ROT
heavy metal, death metal

ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF - LIVE AT MONTREUX
alternative, indie

SKULLCRUSHER - QUIET THE ROOM
ambient folk, indie rock

KEVIN MORBY - HARLEM RIVER
folk rock, indie rock

ENO BRIAN & DAVID BYRNE - MY LIFE IN THE BUSH OF GHOSTS
rock, electronic

BILL CALLAHAN - YTILAER
apocalyptic folk, folk rock
Reality or however its pronounced

CAN - THE LOST TAPES
experimental rock

There are so many fantastic albums every year. How do I pick only 5?
I can’t, so instead here are five albums from 2022 that might make you feel just a little bit better about the turn of the world.

BILL CALLAHAN & BONNIE PRINCE BILLY-BLIND DATE PARTY
folk country rock
Bill Callahan & Will Oldham team up with their label mates at Drag City for a double album of covers. By the end it feels like you just went to a party and had a great time. Maybe there were some drugs, maybe somebody got their feelings hurt but in the end it’s everybody singing together arm in arm.

BILL CALLAHAN-YTILAER
apocalyptic folk, folk rock
The mere sound of his voice is like getting a foot rub from Johnny Cash. Relaxing, a tad erotic and weirdly profound.

ALABASTER DEPLUME-GOLD
alternative, indie
The subtitle to this album is GO FORWARD IN THE COURAGE OF YOUR LOVE. That's a good idea nowadays. This modern jazz record is as light as a feather and strong as rebar. If you need reminding that YOU ARE PRECIOUS, then check this out.

SJD-SWEETHEART
indie rock, pop-rock-soul-electronic
After Covid it was easy to think that we were all partitioned off from one and other. SJD’s year highlight pushes through some long dark nights of the soul to find a sense of community in the strangest places. It also made me want to do a massive manu at Bethals Lake.

BEYONCE-RENAISSANCE
r&b, pop, hip hop, soul
Got the blues? Just dance it off. Honestly, I don’t dance in public. But at home, if all my chores are done and nobody else is about. I can do some pretty damn shameful rug cutting to the groove machine that is the new Beyonce album. Also the book that comes with the vinyl box set is very well photographed and makes me happy.

KENDRICK LAMAR - MR MORALE & THE BIG STEPPERS
hip hop

BEABADOOBEE - BEATOPIA
indie rock, space rock

NAS - ILLMATIC
hip hop

NAS - IT WAS WRITTEN
hip hop

BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE - TEPID PEPPERMINT WONDERLAND
psychedelic rock, garage rock, folk rock

DEAD MOON - GOING SOUTH BOXSET
punk rock, garage rock, garage punk

OFF! - FREE LSD
hardcore punk

S. CAREY - BREAK ME OPEN
indie folk, ambient pop

AROOJ AFTAB - VULTURE PRINCE
jazz, ethnic, neo-sufi, meditative

ABSENT IN BODY - PLAGUE GOD
experimental sludge metal, post-metal

DEAFHEAVEN - INFINITE GRANITE
post-metal, post-rock, heavy metal

JOAN AS POLICEWOMAN, TONY ALLEN, DAVE OKUMU - THE SOLUTION IS RESTLESS
funk, jazz, soul, dub

JAMIRE WILLIAMS - BUT ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE SUFFERED
hip hop, jazz

ISAIAH COLLIER & THE CHOSEN FEW - COSMIC TRANSITIONS
jazz

PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS-NIGHT GNOMES
psychedelic rock, prog rock, alt rock
