3 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST OF THE DAY: DEAD C

3 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST OF THE DAY:

DEAD C

PATIENCE

"Their early work was rooted in feedback-drenched indie rock but they soon moved from this into more experimental work, in which every noise imaginable that could be made with each instrument was explored and brought to bear around the theme at hand - which often meant that the tracks would rise into an ethereal range of screeches howls and thunderous pounding. The music was hard to latch on to, but nonetheless stirring and emotional in its intensity."
Gareth Shute, p.139 NZ ROCK 1987 - 2007

The Dead C are without a doubt one of Dunedin's most iconic bands - often described as 'noise-rock' or 'free-rock'.
Formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1987, within a do-it-yourself and punk-rock music culture that was to become known as the 'Dunedin Sound'.
Dead C gained even greater popularity within international subculture circles... Sonic Youth regularly arranged for them to play support for their New Zealand shows!
By the year 2000 Dead C had released 14 albums!!!

2 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST OF THE DAY: JAKOB

2 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST OF THE DAY:

JAKOB

Solace released in 2006

SOLACE by JAKOB is Dave's FAVOURITE NEW ZEALAND ALBUM EVER!!! ... that is saying something! until their new one comes out this year - maybe?

Intense atmospheric instrumental rock... masters of the 'quiet-loud' dynamic and delay on the delay... pedals galore... they sure know how to move a crowd. Live gigs are rare... so whenever you hear about one in your neighbourhood, we HIGHLY recommend you get out there to see them!

Hailing from Napier in the Hawkes Bay (North Island), this 3 piece band have a loyal following. If you like bands such as Mogwai, Sigur Ros,Tool ... chances are JAKOB sounds could be right up your alley!

Check out this youtube clip for 'Malachite' the first track on Solace:

1 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST of the DAY: DELANEY DAVIDSON

1 MAY 2014 ~ NZ ARTIST of the DAY

DELANEY DAVIDSON

"Delaney Davidson is back with his 5th solo album, 10 new amazing gems of gothic folk-noir, with a lo-fi rock sensibility"

This man is without a doubt PROLIFIC! Swim Down Low vinyl first appeared in NZ music stores on Record Store Day, 19 April 2014. This is Delaney Davidson's 5th solo album, however his music appears on numerous compilation albums and his three albums with Marlon Williams (Sad But True,Volumes I, II, III) released in 2012, 2013 and 2014 have also been incredibly sought after!

Please note Volume II is SUPER difficult to get!!!

Check out this youtube clip of the single 'Big Ugly Fish' on Swim Down Low ... if this is your cup-of-tea, you will definitely want to check out his albums. Want the good news??? Delaney Davidson tours extensively around the world... you do not have to be in NZ to check him out LIVE!! YAY for all of you elsewhere!

“Necessity is the mother of invention, and a low budget will lead to all sorts of beautiful stand-in potential. Whistling instead of violins. I love to see things take a step, and I think people like to see the triumph of a good idea over a slick production, I think it gives them hope and inspiration. Ultimately the result of hi gloss is alienation and a removed and depressed let down feeling of not being good enough. I say let it all go!”
