TIM

Here's a few highlights of my year, musically and in no particular order:

The Can Live Series, particularly Live in Paris 1973. Monster grooves, unbridled improv and Damo Suzuki. Incredible.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Wild God- Seems odd that some people have talked about Nick 'getting religious' when spiritual issues have underpinned so much of what he's been singing about for decades. But here it all comes together in a glorious rush of exultant and hypnotic joy.

Neil Young Archives Volume 3 -17 CDs from prime late-70s Neil to the mid-80s in all its head-scratching weirdness. Way to much to take in in the 4 months since it came out so plenty more for listening to this in 2025.

Alice Coltrane - The Carnegie Hall Concert 1971- the first part with Alice on harp is lush and gorgeous, the 2nd set when she switches to piano touches on transcendence.

Billie Eilish - Hit me Hard and Soft. Well the 2020s needed a look in somewhere. This is incredibly smart and sophisticated pop music and sounds great cranked up through the Textone Towers (speakers of the year!)

Honorable mentions - Oddly, much of what I've rediscovered in 2024 has its roots 50 years ago in 1974. I listened to tons of Robert Wyatt, whose world-weary voice and by turns absurdist, grim and hopeful lyrics seem to mainline the ennui of the mid-70s into our strange times. And Van Morrison's Veedon Fleece which, for me, can still make time stand still.

There are so many more. Music truly IS the best!
