Dave + Irene will be at the store with the door open, and there’ll be a counter across the front door.

If there are other people already waiting when you arrive, just line up and keep good physical distance from each other.

Otherwise, we’ll see you, and we’ll chat from 2m and sort you out without contact across the temporary counter!

Dave likes to call it our physical distancing barrier - sorry no hugs this time round — have to wait a bit longer for those 😊

I don't like to use websites, is there any other way I can order/purchase?

Yes! You can still order music + fun relics stuff from us!

  • Email us -- and you can pay by internet banking, or PayPal -- we'll give you all the details you need by email.
  • Phone us -- we can process a credit card or debit card over the phone, or in NZ, you can pay by internet banking, or via bank teller at your local bank. We'll give you the info you need when you call.

I live internationally - not in NZ, can you still ship to me?

Yes! Under NZ's Covid-19 Alert level 3, our post offices are open for international shipping.

Please note that the lockdown restrictions in your own country may affect estimated delivery times and there may be delays. However, If New Zealand is under alert levels 3, 2 or 1 we can ship your goods as per normal.

Any other queries, please don't hesitate to call or email us.

Be well, stay safe + hope you're feeling positive!

Dave + Irene xx

OTHER MUSIC Documentary - A Virtual Screening

Posted on April 18, 2020 by Irene Hundleby

Relics Presents - OTHER MUSIC

Documentary Virtual Screening

Kia ora - we woke up this morn - SAT 18 APRIL and realised today was supposed to be International Record Store Day - RSD 2020 - sadly no 😕... RSD has been moved to SAT 20 JUNE...

BUT Relics has just gotten virtual screening access to the "OTHER MUSIC" documentary - a love letter to record store culture ❤️
This could be the perfect thing to screen on this rainy autumnal day in lockdown... we'll be checking it out for sure!!

Once you purchase a screening, you can watch it as many times as you like over the next 72 hours (once you start playing it) -- and the RELICS link will remain live until next Friday 24 April (NZT).

Purchase your Relics OTHER MUSIC screening here :
https://othermusic.vhx.tv/…/relics-presents-other-…/purchase

We know its not the same as trawling our bins on RSD -- but we kind of think its a nice way to remember how much we love our own music communities... and a chance to see the passion other music lovers had for this NYC record store + their staff. ENJOY -- and after you've checked it out, let us know what you think !!

Other Music Documentary Trailer from Factory 25 on Vimeo.

“Celebrates and immortalizes the culture of the record store.”
-Jen Aswad, Variety

“One of the worlds greatest record store's gets a fitting eulogy .”
-John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter

"As hubs like Other Music struggle to remain in existence, we think it's important to celebrate what spaces like these have meant to people in the
past, and to explore how their spirit can live on in an increasingly digital world"
-Lydnsey Havens, Billboard

"While the documentary is ostensibly lighthearted in its nostalgic take on music culture, a hint of rage lies beneath the surface."
-Susannah Gruder, Hyperallergic

"For 21 years, Other Music offered more than just records and CDs…but a public space for conversation, experimentation and concerts…
Bittersweet paean that this is, however, it is filled with the joy of happy memories, as one interviewee after another pays homage to what once was."
-Christopher Llewellyn Reed, Hammer To Nail

Synopsis:

Other Music was an influential and uncompromising New York City record store that was vital to the city’s early 2000s indie music scene. But when the store is forced to close its doors due to rent increases, the homogenization of urban culture, and the shift from CDs to downloadable and streaming music, a cultural landmark is lost. Through vibrant storytelling, the documentary captures the record store’s vital role in the musical and cultural life of the city, and highlights the artists whose careers it helped launch including Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, William Basinski, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sharon Van Etten, Yo La Tengo and TV On The Radio.

Produced and Directed by Puloma Basu and Rob Hatch-Miller

Featuring: Tunde Adebimpe (TV On the Radio), William Basinski (composer), Panda Bear (Animal Collective), Matt Berninger (The National), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), James Chance (The Contortions), Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Benicio Del Toro (actor), Janeane Garofalo (comedian), Martin Gore (Depeche Mode), Daniel Kessler (Interpol), Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Mac McCaughan (Superchunk), Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields), Keigo Oyamada (Cornelius), Jocelyn Samson (Le Tigre), Jason Schwartzman (actor), Regina Spektor (singer/sonwriter), Avey Tare (Animal Collective), Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500/Luna) and more...

Festivals: Tribeca Film Festival, Montclair Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, Oak Cliff Film Festival, Taoyuan Film Festival, SoundTrack Cologne, Middle Of The Map Fest, Lake County Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, POP Montreal, Vancouver International Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, New Hampshire Film Festival, Cork Film Festival, St. Louis International Film Festival, Sound Unseen, Reel Music Festival and more...
